FUNCTIONAL REUSE OF THE FORMER DEUTSCHE BANK HEADQUARTERS IN LECCO

The former Deutsche Bank headquarters in the town centre consist of a historical building overlooking Piazza Garibaldi and a contiguous building built in 1957.
As the bank moved its premises to another venue, it was felt the need to find a functional reuse of the structure that, while respecting its historical identity, would allow the establishment of a set of features, able to give it a new urban role.
Being aware that working on a building complex with a total surface of approximately 6.500 square meters, located in the “heart” of the town, cannot be limited to buildings renovation only, the project investigates the roads and car parks system first, offering solutions to support the “settlement weight” that the new features will produce within the urban context.
The project’s approach is aimed at maintaining the consolidated aspect, without visibly altering the outer shell, while offering a flexible inner space re-organization system, where the establishment of commercial and tertiary sector as well as tourist- receptive and residential structures is scheduled.
