Shinsegae Canopy

The project involves covering a stretch of road that divides the historic building from the modern one of the Shinsegae Department Store in the center of Seoul with a “transparent” structure. Two solutions were proposed: one with a light tensile structure in glass and steel cables, the other with a system of reticular beams supporting the glass sheets. The project also included the redesign of the flooring and an air conditioning system to guarantee thermal comfort in both the hot summer season and the harsh winter one.
