New exit from the Medici Chapels Museum
Florence – Italy
Design competition: 2017, with Arch. Diego Toluzzo
The design for the new exit and service areas of the Medici Chapels in Florence sought a delicate balance between the conservation and reuse of the historic and architectural asset. The proposed solution, in addition to optimizing the visitor route and enhancing the underground spaces with new museum functions, creates an architectural link between the New Sacristy and the Chapel of the Princes. This amplifies the relationship between the museum space and the street, between the Monument and the City. The compositional layout, with its rigor and structural clarity, defines the “contemporary” in the historical and temporal stratification of the San Lorenzo Complex.
