PROVINCIAL LIBRARY

Campobasso – Italy
Design Competition: 2009
with: Arch. Diego Toluzzo, Arch. Manuela Casartelli, Ing. Marco Rigamonti,
Geom. Norma Sala, Guido Camandona

The competition required the expansion of a civic space area hosting cultural activities including a library, a conference room and subsidiary spaces. The project identified a new separate volume placed on the parking gap, maintaining the green with valuable trees that becomes the “inner garden” of a larger building complex.
The compositional unity of the envelope and the identity of the building are defined by a “structural skeleton” which incorporates the existing building and the planned ones, rendering the ideal image of a “library”, where “books” constitute a partially adjustable shading system.
